House System

Every student and member of staff is part of a House community.

Each House has a specific identity and forms a community within the wider school. Every student represents their House at all times through their commitment to school life earning House Points which count towards the Annual House Cup Competition.

Our house names were inspired by our students, our local fishing heritage and traditional school values.

The Cassio vessel was used in WW1 and was eventually targeted by a German submarine. All the crew survived due to their amazing resilience and determination to survive.

Portia House

Yellow is the colour of the mind and the intellect. Yellow also stands for positivity, energy, intellect, honour, loyalty, cleverness, originality, and inventiveness.

In the middle of the 19th century Charles and Robert Hellyer went into steam trawling in 1888 as Hellyer Steam Fishing Co, Ltd with a North Sea Fleet. In 1913 they pioneered the use of wireless with their ships and in 1919 they became the Hellyer Bros Ltd. After the Second World War ended in 1945 the company started to rebuild its fleet, by buying a number of ships and having 6 new trawlers built at Middlesbrough one of which was PORTIA. She was built in 1956 and was Hull's first diesel electric trawler.

Portia is the heroine of William Shakespeare’s ‘The Merchant of Venice’. She is one of the strongest and wisest characters found in William Shakespeare’s plays. She understands the difference between knowing and doing what’s right and is usually very self-controlled. Another of her characteristics is her graciousness and we remember her at the end of the play for her wit and intellect.
